Same old story here, I’ve not been able to get as much decks time as I’d like, so Pure Vinyl 3 is still nowhere to be seen. But, don’t despair, I have actually mixed (and recorded) a whole bunch of tunes this afternoon and Something Special is ready for the download right about now.
Now, to the title of the mix; On the face of it, it could be considered pretentious. It is after all only a mix (which is probably a little suspect in places) of other peoples records, nothing more, nothing less. But this isn’t why it’s called what it is, it’s actually earned its title because I was in a deeply personal space whilst I was in the mix. I love music, to me, records are something special; the right record can change a mood in a heartbeat, it can make a room of people move rhythmically as one, it can create the most powerful of emotions and stir dormant memories.
But that’s not the only reason the mix is titled as such; I got to thinking about my life, good friends, a magical sunset, a glorious sunrise, family, meeting someone for the first time, saying goodbye to someone for the last time as well as the billions of other events, actions and interactions that go on in a persons life; each is a special moment in one way or another; each as deserving of the time, love, care and attention of the last.
Life is Something Special there’s no two ways about it. Do what you love to do as much as possible, without forsaking those close to you and live your life to the best of your abilities (and circumstances). I certainly shall be, and I’ll be having this new mix as the soundtrack to it.
