28th February 2003, the night of the Cyberdog Bristol launch party aboard the Thekla. The main room line up consisted of Nuw Idol, Ting, Sol Ray & Abduction – fast paced, uplifting, just what you’d want from a cracking night out.
But it was upstairs when this piece of magic happened. Upstairs was billed as the “Chill Out” room; I’m using inverted comma’s here, because looking back, it wasn’t really that chilled. Borat, Zest & me had the floor rocking – not intentionally, it just happened. Borat set the pace, Zest dropped a HUGE breaks set, and I mentally binned what i was going to play in favour of a more upbeat/diverse set (Tori Amos, The Grid and The Freestylers all got rotation, it was that sort of night!!). What followed was even better. Unbelievably good music crafted by Sketchy & Steady on a whole bunch of synths. Now while the DJ sets were committed to memory only, one clever so and so (Mr Sketchy) recorded their set. Some of us lucky folk got our grubby paws on copies of the set, now you can too. Enjoy 🙂
